Director - Backbone Network Engineering

Location: 

Your manager is in Kirkland, WA, but you can work remotely in most of the US, Western Europe, or near a GoDaddy office.  This position is not eligible to be performed in Alaska, Colorado, Mississippi, North Dakota, or the Virgin Islands.

This position will require advanced knowledge of networking technologies including routing, switching, and security as well as a desire and aptitude to learn new technologies as needed to keep pace with our customer needs.

We are looking for a talented, driven, and dedicated Director of Backbone Network Engineering. We have a vast and complex network and a never ending need for innovation in order to meet the needs of our ever changing environment. This position will require advanced knowledge of networking technologies including routing, switching, and security as well as a desire and aptitude to learn new technologies as needed to keep pace with our customer needs.


What you’ll get to do:

  • Manage the deployment, configuration, and support a multi-vendor network infrastructure in data centers, large enterprise campus environments, and individual corporate sites globally consisting of routers, switches, firewalls, and hardware load-balancers.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 troubleshooting support for complex hosting and enterprise network environments.
  • Expertise in OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, VRRP, and other networking protocols
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate deeply with a cross functional team of Network and Security Architects, Software Developers and Engineers, Server and Platform Engineers, and Data Center Operations.  You will do more than just maintain a network.
  • Experience with large spine/leaf datacenter network architectures
  • Experience with developing infrastructure automation highly desired
  • Mentor junior team members

Your experience should include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, or a related field is preferred
  • CCNP certification or equivalent is preferred
  • Expert OSPF and BGP implementation and troubleshooting experience in both carrier and hosting environments
  • Expert knowledge of JUNOS, EOS, IOS, IOS-XR, and NX-OS as it relates to the carrier and hosting provider environments. Expertise in Transport technologies, such as MPLS in a provider environment is required
  • Expertise with Juniper EX/MX, Cisco ASR and Nexus switches, and Arista switches.
  • 5+ years of relevant networking experience, 8+ years without a college degree or advanced networking certification
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze and research problems of a complex nature, make judgment decisions and recommendations, and lead the implementation into a production environment.
  • Extensive experience using Network Management/Monitoring tools (e.g. RANCID, Netcool, Splunk, Spectrum, Polaris, StatSeeker)
  • Strong desire to learn emerging technologies and to innovate
